Types of Data Collected

Among the types of Personal Data that this Application collects, by itself or through third parties, there are: • Trackers • Usage Data • Number of Users • Session statistics • First name • Last name • Email address Complete details on each type of Personal Data collected are provided in the dedicated sections of this privacy policy or by specific explanation texts displayed prior to the Data collection. Personal Data may be freely provided by the User, or, in case of Usage Data, collected automatically when using this Application. Unless specified otherwise, all Data requested by this Application is mandatory and failure to provide this Data may make it impossible for this Application to provide its services. Any use of Cookies — or of other tracking tools — by this Application or by the owners of third-party services used by this Application serves the purpose of providing the Service required by the User, in addition to any other purposes described in the present document and in the Cookie Policy. Users are responsible for any third-party Personal Data obtained, published or shared through this Application.

Information We Also Collect

Age Group: When you first access the chat, you select an age group (Under 18 or 18+). Users who select "Under 18" are restricted to the AI chat feature only and are not matched with human strangers. This selection is stored locally in your browser and is used to enforce age-appropriate access. IP Address: Your IP address is automatically collected when you access the platform. This is used solely for security purposes, including spam prevention, rate limiting, and enforcing automated blocks based on user reports. IP addresses may be retained for up to 30 days following a block, after which they are removed from our active records. Chat Sessions: We create temporary session records to facilitate real-time matching between users. These records are used only to connect you with another user. Chat Messages: Messages sent during a chat session are stored temporarily to deliver them in real time. When either user reports a chat session, that session will be recorded and retained for safety and moderation purposes. We do not retain conversation history indefinitely, except where required for moderation or legal compliance. AI Chat (Aimy): If you use the AI chat feature, your messages are sent to Groq's API (groq.com) to generate responses. Groq processes these messages as a third-party AI service provider. Please refer to Groq's Privacy Policy at https://groq.com/privacy-policy for details on how they handle data. User Reports: If another user reports you during a chat session, a report record is created that includes the date, session ID, and your IP address. These records are used to determine whether automated blocking thresholds have been met. Report records may be retained for up to 30 days. Reported Chat Logs: When a session is reported, a complete snapshot of all messages exchanged during that session — along with the IP addresses of both participants — is preserved for administrative review. These logs are retained indefinitely until reviewed by our team and are not subject to routine automated deletion. Following review, an administrator may issue a permanent IP ban for serious violations. Reported chat logs may also be retained for legal compliance purposes. Contact Form Submissions: If you contact us via our Contact page, we store your name, email, and message to respond to your inquiry.

Anonymity

Stranger.Chat is designed to be anonymous. You are identified to other users only by a randomly assigned alias (e.g., "Midnight Fox"), not by your real name or email address. Your email is never shared with other users. We do not display your real identity to the person you are chatting with at any time.

Sharing of Information

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties except as described in this policy. We may share information in the following circumstances: • With service providers who assist in operating our platform (e.g., hosting, authentication), bound by confidentiality obligations. • With Groq (groq.com) — our AI service provider that powers the "Aimy" AI chat feature. Messages you send in the AI chat are processed by Groq to generate responses. • With Google LLC — for analytics, advertising and remarketing purposes as described in this policy. • If required by law, court order, or governmental authority. • To protect the rights, safety, or property of Stranger.Chat, our users, or the public.

Children's Privacy

Stranger.Chat allows users who are under 18 to use the AI chat feature only. Users under 18 are not matched with human strangers under any circumstances. We do not knowingly collect more information from minors than is necessary to provide the AI chat service. Parents and guardians who have concerns about their child's use of Stranger.Chat are encouraged to contact us at team@stranger.chat. If we become aware that a minor has provided information in an inappropriate manner, we will take steps to delete that information. For parental control tools and resources, visit https://www.connectsafely.org/controls/.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include secure authentication, encrypted data transmission (HTTPS), access controls, and automated IP-based blocking to protect users from abuse. Our platform uses an automated reporting and blocking system: if a user's IP address is reported 2 or more times within 24 hours, it is blocked for 1 day; if reported 10 or more times within 5 days, it is blocked for 30 days. This system is designed to protect users from harassment and inappropriate behavior. When a session is reported, a full chat log (including IP addresses and all messages) is preserved and made available to administrators for manual review. Following review, an administrator may issue a permanent IP ban for serious or repeat violations. Permanently banned IP addresses cannot access the chat service. We also employ an automated content filter that detects and blocks messages containing phone numbers, physical addresses, hate speech, slurs, or sexually explicit language before they are transmitted. All chat sessions are subject to a 30-minute duration limit, after which the session is automatically terminated. This measure helps protect all users, particularly minors. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
